How are the trans parts solenoids holding up? They are sooo cheap. They look ok I guess. I also purchased them because I can't get the right ones from volvo OR FCP. I didn't start the job yet...still working up courage. makotransmissionparts.com sells a gasket for $5 making the job a little easier.. They also sell solenoids for around $200 ! Maybe they are gold plated.

the solenoids are doing ok. after 5k miles the tranny started flaring and waiting/delaying to shift into second gear. a partial drain of a quart and then a refill with a quart of lucas and it has been going ok. i have almost 17k on the car since the solenoid swap. i did not get any wonderful 'new' performance, but the really lousy shifting and non-shifting has stopped.

My transmission only lasted another 8 or 9 months after I swapped the solenoids. I'm not certain it was the solenoids that went bad though but I'm not sure so I can't really speak to their quality.

I don't know if you saw but I also posted a write up for this. Maybe you'll find it helpful.

I saw somewhere in this forum where seafoam was added to the transmission and then the car was driven a little while to flush out the crud. Has anyone done this? it sounds like you might damage something. I was going to replace the solenoid s1 because of the 750 error and the flashing arrow of doom. pnp is new and wiring is good..solenoid reads about 18 ohms but clicks nicely when I poke it with 12volts. I know that the trans has never been flushed...or fluid changed (except when I uncorked the drivers side axle during replacement... that was good for 3 or 4 qts )for that matter ever..Im the original owner ...So what I'm asking is maybe dirt is blocking something...my inclination is to change the S1 first even though its a pain.

i dont think the seafoam is a good idea on an aged transmission. there is to much to risk/lose by shaking things loose in there, especially if it has never been flushed. in fact, if it was never flushed dont do a full fluid change, do a partial. maybe one or two quarts only. drive it for a few thousand miles and then flush another couple. repeat a few times until the fluid looks better. the fine particles that have built up in your tranny can really make a mess of the small passages and other little sprung valve in the unit.
