S70 Window switch packs...

Post by rspi »

I have fixed a few of the window switches in these x70 cars that I have been restoring. A few minutes ago I seen some of the switch packs on eBay for about $27, new with a 10 year warranty. Has anyone had one for more than 6 months? Do they actually work?

I bought one from alibaba for the same price two years ago and although I can't guarantee it's the same as this one, it's still working well. Upon receiving I did find that the switches and the body were made of cheaper material, slightly lighter and cracked more than the old one during installation (maybe because the old plastic had already been 'broken in', I removed it quite a few times to check the connections before giving up).

I am at right about 6 months on one of the cheapies, it is still working.

I paid $25 shipped from Switch Doctor via Amazon, they are up to $35 right now (the price bounces around a lot):

That's just nuts. Heck, as long as they work. They are usually broken at the junk yard for $14.

They may all come from the same factory but I went with SwitchDoctor because at Amazon there are several years of mostly positive views.

The lighting is a gaudy, overly bright green. But it works great so far.

Swmbo took exception to my repaired window switch which smoked whenever you moved a window. She was skeptical all of my claims that this was a visual window operation feature.

I got an OEM window switch new at about 100 bucks...ouch.....but it is still working well 7 years later I think?

I bought one of these switches for my wife's S70 and it worked right out the box. It doesn't seem to fit into the OEM slot in the door though... Don't know how something like that happens. I figure I will have to shave it down a little in order to get it to fit. (I van't gotten around to it though...) I have noticed a peculiarity with it, however. Maybe someone else has experienced something similar? Seems that it lowers the passengers-side window slower than that passenger switch. Not a lot slower, but a little slower. But maybe that's just me... It's been working for three months now.
