2000 S80 4 Button Remote Start Model 4103

Everything on the Volvo S80. Sometimes called an "executive car", the S80 was Volvo's top-of-the-line passenger car. P2 platform.

2000 S80 4 Button Remote Start Model 4103

Post by justingotts »

Greetings, and thanks for this great resource! I have used the information here to address the ETM defects and the emissions leak due to the J hose, and the knowledge here has been outstanding. That's why I'm bringing this puzzle to you. And before you say it, I know, I know, only pain and agony will follow me if I attempt this myself.

TLDR:
1. Where is the factory keyless entry module (KVM, RXX or other acronym) located on the car?
2. Can anyone provide the wiring diagram for it?
2. Can I tap into the signal wires from it to control the locks and trunk? I want to keep the factory key fob functionality to unlock the drivers door with one press, etc.
3. What issues do you see with cutting out the transponder from the ignition key and mounting it in the steering column?

I'm attempting to install the Avital (Directed, Viper, and other brand names) 4103 remote starter into my 2000 S80 2.9. Other than the obvious reason that I want the car to start remotely, I'm doing this to have greater range with the remote lock, unlock, and trunk release (the factory range leaves something to be desired).

I would like to find the location of factory keyless entry module and tap into the wires coming from it and wire it to the 4103. If it's possible, this should enable keeping the factory key fob button press functionality (press unlock once for drivers door, twice for all doors, etc.) Is it possible, and where is that module located? I have looked at a lot of diagrams and schematics and cannot find its location or wiring diagram. I keep finding references to it but can't find the corresponding diagram.

To get around the factory alarm and immobilizer I will remove transponder from the ignition key and permanently relocate it to the steering column next to the ignition switch. I only have one key anyway and I plan on buying a couple extra dummy keys. Does anyone know of an issue this would cause, other than a greater risk of theft? Here's the thread for that mod https://www.matthewsvolvosite.com/forums ... =1&t=61212

Thanks in advance for your feedback.
Justin

The remote radio is the UEM which is housed in the inside rear view mirror. The UEM gets signal from remote and the UEM broadcasts the command received and also the remote ID. The remote ID is used so that driver's seat and each door module can move seat to correct position and adjust mirrors to stored positions and unlock the front doors as appropriate. The REM unlocks back doors and enables trunk opening when handle is depressed.

I don't believe what you are looking for exists in networked cars like the S80. The functionality is not centralized like it was (is) for non-networked cars where a central module runs locking system and a receiver is the unit signaling the requests by the remotes.

Volvo has a unit for P2 and some other platforms called the AEM (accessory electric module) that is added to the car so aftermarket units can interface with the network functions for remote start and other features. AEM is not cheap and requires software programming to the vehicle using VIDA.

jimmy57, thanks for the information. I started looking into the AEM. Is this it?http://www.volvopartswebstore.com/produ ... 904-2.html

Would the aftermarket remote starter be wired to the AEM and the ignition, or are you referring to this additional module, "Remote start for fuel-powered heater, see climate/preheater/VCC-316508 Remote fuel-driven heater start."? The remote start for fuel-powered heater activates a heater to heat the interior of the car but doesn't start the car. It may also require installation of the fuel-powered heater, but I don't know.

Maybe I will keep the short range of the factory fob for lock/unlock/trunk and just use a 1 button remote starter. Are there any barriers keeping the transponder near the steering column and using a 1 button remote starter?
