Hello all,
The time has finally come to replace the ETM and alot of people have suggested Xemodex as a way to go. I have looked around and found a few used ETM units for a couple hundred dollars and I am not sure what the way to go will be. I am not concerned about the cost to program the unit, as that is already taken care of. The car is old and I don't know if a brand new unit is worth it. I am experiencing the classic symptoms and want a healthier car. Are there any specific things to look for when buying a used unit? I also believe the MAF needs replacement and I'm curious to know if you replace the housing as well, or just the sensor?'
Regards, Matt

Its hard to find a MAF sensor without a body, so its usually best to just buy the assembly, but if you have a known-good sensor you can install it in the existing body, which is just a plastic airflow straightener. I did that in mine and contrary to the claims of doom, gloom and eminent disaster posted here, it has worked great.
I took my ETM out and cleaned it and it has worked fine for two years now. I can't figure out how that fixed it since it just had surface varnish in the throat, but it did. Taking it out seems hard when looking at it buried in the engine compartment, but the Xemodex video shows you step by step and it turns out to be pretty easy.

Matt...buried in one these threads somewhere is the code to figure out the date on a used ETM
I believe the year and week code are the first 5 digits in the second line of text under the volvo name on the yellow sticker
10W30........ Is a 2010, week 30 build
I'll try to find and link or Mike will chime in.
I think any ETM after 2007 will have latest software

FYI, Dealers and many others have said that you need to buy a new one in order for it to be able to be programmed by the dealer or that other company online that sells the TB cheaper than the dealer. What I found that my 99v70 non-turbo needed a TB as well and I am friends with my dealer and a mechanic told me as long as you get a up to date TB it can be used to program it. I got lucky and before I installed mine, I disconnected the battery installed the used TB and let it sit over night. I hooked up the battery the next morning and then said a Hail Mary and it started and never had to be programed. Now its been 3 years and still going strong!!

Mine went out a few years ago.... I used this: http://m.ebay.com/itm/Contactless-Throt ... nav=SEARCH
Didn't have to deal with reprogramming, and never had issues since. I'm pretty good at soldering so it wasn't hard for me to replace just the sensor.
