2008 S60: Tire Selection

Post by ulflip2 »

Need advice as to what size of tire to put on my S60. The tire dealer tells me I can go up to a 18" tire. The stock tire is a 16". I've heard rumors that upsizing the tire can create problems but the tire dealer tells me it will be fine as I intend to change wheels at the same time.

Any advice would be most welcome.

A larger wheel will need a lower profile tire. You may notice a harsher ride if the roads are in poor condition. It's also risky if there are potholes as these damage the tires and wheels on low profile tires. Otherwise the handling is improved and the tires are more expensive. I would rather stay with 17" tires as a compromise.

235/45/17 is the 17" size on the correct 17" x 7.5" wide wheel. You will need to buy thicker steering stops so your tires won't rub
Your turning circle WILL be larger.
There are several really good, fairly inexpensive tires in that size and in your 205/55/16 size too.
A Good, high performance, all season tire will work wonders in either size.
