check engin light is on my 99 s80 2.9. is there a scanner out there that is reasonable priced that will give you the codes and also allow you to reset service engine light, and check engine light?

Volvo 1999-2000 - S80 Models
* Turn ignition switch to position 1
* Press and hold "day counter reset button"
* Turn ignition switch to position 2
* Continue holding day counter for approx. 10 seconds
* After SRL flashes, release day counter button
* Should hear "beep-beep" to confirm command accepted

I highly recommend the Equus Innova 3100 scan tool...you can find them on eBay for a reasonable price. I bought mine for about $75

this may work for turning off the service light ..... but it will not turn off the check engine light i assume only a scanner will reset the check engine light do you personally have the kind of scanner you refrenced? will it tell you what you need to know? as far as what the codes are and reset all faults? i wish i could find a service manual on this car that will tell you what all the codes mean. the only place i havent check to see if i can get a manual is the stealership, but if you could buy one ill but its expensive. thanks for the reply

Yes, I have this scanner....it was early this morning when I posted, so I thought you meant the procedure for resetting the reminder light. Yes, the scanner will scan out all error codes and reset them (with the exception of A/C and possibly some airbag related lights). There is a list of Volvo specific codes in the Volvo database to cross reference the generic codes you'll get from a non-Volvo scanner. I've had my scanner for a little over a year and I wouldn't leave home without it.
