Ok so I admit this is somewhat of a newbie question, but other than running a carfax, how can you tell a difference on 1998-2001 AWD regular V70s and the Regular models? sometimes people take emblems off or add incorrect emblems and so forth. in other words, are there certain features on an AWD V70 that will not be on a regular V70? Of course we all know an XC when we see one with the different trim, bumpers etc,
Did they make base mode V70 with AWD and no other options, or were they all fully loaded with turbo, sunroof etc? if I were looking at a car in person I think I would be able to just look at the rear suspension and see the drive mechanism, I'm mainly talking about shopping online
Thanks

All 3 '98 -'00 AWD P80 models are equipped with turbos.
( 2001 is a entirely different car - First year of the P2's ).
XCs are 2.4 liter I5's with a low pressure turbo.
The R got a 2.3 inline 5 and a high pressure turbo.
The R is also lower than all of the other P80's.
There are some '99 & '00 AWD sedans around, too.
And with the exception of increasingly rare and
usually rust encrusted 5 speed '97 850 wagons that
were sold only in Canada, all of the AWD P80's in the
US were marketed with autos. Manual transmission
conversions are out there, but many are FWD.
Like any car that can be factory ordered,
options do vary from car to car.

on both of my 98's, I have one that is the awd and one that is the xc, the xc has an egg crate style grille and the same with the bumper grilles, the awd has the "jail bar" style grille and horizontal bars on the bumpers, also the rear of the xc has a "cross country" decal below the window. inside the xc has wood trim on the dash, shifter and glove box. The only other difference is the xc has a roof rack.

As previously mentioned, AWD exhaust is on right. AWD ride height may not be noticeably higher in some pics.
XCs have different bumpers, with textured black trim on them f&r. Also XC grill and bumper bezels are eggcrate. XC lower bezels are larger and foglights are squarish. XCs also had cladding on the lower bodysides.
The VIN number will also tell you what a car is. If shopping online, ask seller for first 6 digits of VIN.

Current Volvos:
1998 V70 T5, 112k sat 5 years, still in mechanical coma (finally at the top of the pile )
2004 XC90 T6 AWD: 186k, 60 on transaxle ( traded in )
1998 POS70 N/A: DD/training aid, 236k but really about 240k, I think...ABS module( passed on to son who sold it)
