1997 V70 T5 Change rear bushing anchorage kit

Post by PerEivind »

Hi,

This weekend I plan to change my rear bushing anchorage kit. I couldn't find any guides to this, so this is my first attempt. Has anyone one the forum done it before?

I have loosened the two lower bolts that runs through the bushing, but not the bolt in the end of the rod. It's quite hard to reach with a socket and and universal joint, because it's hidden inside the suspension arm.

Does this fix require som other parts to come down? I can see that I will have trouble getting the new bushing in, without disassemble more parts. Please see my attached pictures.

Here's a good read on rear suspension.. https://www.matthewsvolvosite.com/forums ... rt#p337252

You will need to remove the 2 long bolts for each of the anchorage mounts. Then slide/separate the two ends from each other to allow easier access to the one bolt you are having difficulty obtaining access too. It is a cumbersome job. Likely need a floor jack on wheels and another "dolly type" device to aid in moving the two torsion bars apart. I used a mechanics creeper, along with wooden blocks, under one rear spring mount and my floor jack on the other rear spring mounting point. Sliding the torsion bars apart will gain you some room to access the bolt on the end of the rod. Hope this helps.

On the right side, the bushing house was cracked in two pieces. I have loosened the dampers, and I might also have to loosen the the suspension arm from the chassis to gain access to the endbolt on the rod. Hopefully Im finished tomorrow.

They are called trailing arm bushings

The bolts have a tendency to corrode in the aluminum block and require a lot of effort to remove. There is no need to remove the shocks or loosen the suspension arm. You will have to remove the rear sway bar in order to get access to the end bolt on the driver's side.

Here's a couple threads I started in with mention of the trailing arm bushings
