A mechanic recently stripped the bolt head on the level/filler plug of my beloved 1989 240 DL wagon equiped with an M47 5-speed manual transmission, before giving up on trying to get the thing off.
I need/want to check the fluid (ATF, I understand) but don't want to try to get the mangled plug off without a replacement in case it's too damaged to get back on.
I have called salvage yards but can't find one with a 240 with manual transmission, and then found a magnetic plug and crush washer on eeuroparts, but I suspect it's for an automatic because the bolt head (my only reference) is much larger than the one on my car.
I believe I can remove the damaged plug with an impact driver (oddly not attempted by either of two mechanics that I witnessed wrestling the plug unsuccessfully with a variety of hand tools not including an impact driver). I reckon I'll need to do some preliminary filing of bolt facets to get a tight fit with the socket.
Any thoughts? Does anyone know the actual size of the plug and/or where I can find a replacement?
Thanks.

VADIS shows the drain plug and filler plug have the same part number. FCPGroton show drain plugs in their 240 'Tune up' section. It may pay to contact them.
