2004 C70 rear seat removal

Post by Dirtbag454 »

I need to remove the rear seat bench in my 04 C70. There is one post (for a '99 C70) that says "pull straight up on the seat base and it will disconnect from the plastic clips". Pull as mightily as I can, and the thing remains stubbornly attached. Is there a difference in the attachment method from '99 to '04? I cannot finish removing the center console to replace the shifter lamp until i get the seat bottom out and remove the two bolts at the rear of that console. I'm beginning to dislike Volvo. (and we have had 4!)

'00 S80 T-6 (donated @ 140K)
'95 850 (traded @ 120k)
'83 240DL (crashed @ 303k)
And then there's the '70 240Z and the '58 Chevy Apache, not to mention the motorcycles...

I have an 04 C70 and it is the same. For me, I moved the front seats up as far as possible and put the top down (optional as I am accident prone) just in case I might accidentally hit it. Then I positioned myself facing the center of the backseat. Then I positioned my hands, I suppose I'd guess in the center of the left and the center of the right part of the back seat. Then yanked upward as hard as possible in a quick motion. It will 'pop' out of place. Keep in mind the back seat is all one piece. I just did this last month doing an LED conversion of the interior lighting of all areas of the inner part of my car. Took me a few tries.
Good luck, it can be done :)

And as for the frustration with Volvo, I am there with you. Every time I go out to do a job that would normally take an hour - it ends up being an all day affair - and this is with Vadis on hand, Youtube, and pre-researching. But I do love her when it's all said and done :)

I have the same problem and as soon as I can, I am getting rid of both volvos I have. So tired of the little things breaking. After getting the back seat up, can you help me with the steps to replace the gear light indicator?
Many thanks.

For the seat back, don't the headrests need to come out first? That requires depressing in the seatbacks, plastic clips that keep the headrests in place. Locating the clips goed 'by feel', there's a thread on that somewhere. Also necessary when replacing rear shocks in the C70 (convertible at least).
