1998 S70 Steer Clear of URO PCV Kit

Post by ferocity02 »

About 3 years ago I installed a URO PCV kit on my 1998 S70. Since then I have only put about 10k miles on the car and the rubber fittings (90 deg and ~15 deg bends) that connect the hard plastic pipes to the PTC valve were both cracking and falling apart. It made an oily mess on the intake tube. I replaced these two fittings with vacuum line, hopefully it will last longer.

Now I'm questioning the fittings at the flame trap which I cannot see with the intake installed. The fitting into the valve cover seem fine.

99.999% sure that the hose with the two red arrows is genuine Volvo in the URO kit FCP sells. It will be totally fine.

I won't buy anything URO, ever.

I got my URO PCV kit from eBay. The rubber fittings, marked with arrows, that came with it did not have any Volvo markings on them, at least not that I recall. Either way, they basically disintegrated after 10k miles whereas the original Volvo fittings with 175k miles were in much better shape.

Never buy anything that says URO and particularly anything made of rubber. They claim they are improving their products, but there is too much history for many Volvo owners. I did the PCV on my V70Xc and the rubber 90 degree elbow split in 700km and poured oil all over my drive. My kit came from IPD and they had at least 2 other owners with the same problem. They replaced the part with a Volvo part, but I had to pull the intake again to get access.

- URO
- ScanTech
- MTC (Mission Trading Co)...Google "Sameer Mission"
https://www.linkedin.com/in/sameermisson

The stories go on...

Most people here know to stick to Volvo OEM for PCV parts, and use generic 5/8" hose etc.
Or even re-use the oil trap...

Yikes. My mistake, I assumed that the picture was from where you bought it. You can see that part has a blue Volvo sticker in the image.

URO Dan wants you to try the new and improve URO parts.

http://forums.turbobricks.com/showpost. ... stcount=21

but history of URO is poor, you can google search.

http://www.500eboard.com/forums/showthr ... e93a0aab13

Dan says part of URO's parts failure analysis is to look at the warranty rate. I disagree with this approach because if I bought a cheap part and it fail within a few months due to quality of the part, why would I bother to warranty the same part so it can fail within another few months? A refund sure, but the same replacement part? I rather keep my shipping cost and spend that on QUALITY part that will last me years.

I had my share of URO parts when I was green. Bought URO coolant tank that turned YELLOW from clear within a few months, URO radiator hoses that swell, so no more. I still have the coolant tank if anyone want to see. Blue bag volvo and makers of Volvo parts only, exception is when there is a better made part available, like full aluminum radiator, full aluminum intercooler, coilover setup with camber plates (no more stupid rubber strut spring seat for me), or the IPD RIP hose kit.

We drive cars from 1990's to early 2000's, we obviously want our cars to last, why buy cheap parts that will only last for a few months then you'll have to do the same repair job over again? QUALITY is top of the list when I am considering a part, then delivery time, then cost.

Maybe small things are alright to save money?

MotoRAD oil cap leaked when it was new. MotoRAD radiator partially melted itself within a few weeks of use.

In the name of "saving money", it has caused me to buy the part twice, do the job twice, paid twice... how am I saving any money?

NO MORE CHEAP LOW QUALITY PARTS!
