1998 C70 Window adjustment problem: stripped adjuster

Post by mags98c70 »

What is the biggest fear among C70 owners.....window problems. I've been through this a few times, and it really sucks!

Little background...this is the third regulator that I've had in the car in the last 3 years. The first was bent when an accident took out the original door. The second came with the new (used) door that replaced it. The motor went bad, so on to this one. Unfortunately, the long cable snapped last week, and I got a bit upset.

Needless to say, I could not find a write-up for making a new wire, so I took on this project blind, and was successful with that aspect of the repair. I was able to cut, crimp, and install a 1/16 cable from home depot for under $20, including hardware. I plan to do a full write-up once reinstallation is complete.

Anyways...The problem came during reinstall and adjustment.

The front adjuster (slider that has the pass-through for the cable in order to adjust the height of the front of the window) was stripped. Not the torx screw, but the actual slider. Now the window will not hold at a level height to the rear.

Has anybody been through this nightmare? What are my options?
- Can I drill through and use a nut/bolt?
- Does anyone have a junk driver's side regulator that they would be willing to send just the front slider?
- Any other suggestions?

Maybe I don't quite get the issue, but could you just tap a larger diameter hole for a larger bolt in the slider?
