98 s70 coolant blowback
98 s70 coolant blowback
OK, so I read the posts everyday and I have learned a lot. I felt good enough to do my pcv on my turbo. Robert DIY did it in 18 minutes (give or take) so I felt good about doing it in two days taking my time. I took it out for a test drive and got aprox a mile when the trans cut out. It also spit out all the coolant through the reservoir. The engine runs smooth and quite but something is wrong. Could I have put some vacuum hoses on wrong? Pushing pressure back into the engine? I'm lost.I need help before I take it all apart again next week.

Can you please describe more what happened with the coolant; was the cap on tight and it blew off?
Pull your trans dipstick does it look like just trans fluid (red to red-brown) or could there be coolant mixed in there (milky red-brown color)?

the cap was tight and didn't blow off. It looks like it blew through the cap. The trans fluid is red and doesn't have any coolant in it. Can the pcv replacement and pressure problem be connected? It ran fine before the pcv job.
check the cap... see if the seal is okay... or if cap is cracked...
do the glove test on the oil cap...
start the car with radiator overflow uncapped... make sure no bubbles are comming up...during the start... to make sure u dont have micro crack on the head.

Does the trans shut down during a coolant overheat issue? The only place I thought the trans and coolant system were remotely connected was in the radiator. If it is an overheat problem maybe the thermostat. That was probably touched while doing the pcv although I did have to replace both the tank and cap due to pinholes at different times.

LOL sorry we are all being so obtuse ... no, probably not, it is really hard to see a connection. The questions I asked were about the cap and the radiator, maybe one of them has coincidentally gone bad.optowalt wrote: ... Can the pcv replacement and pressure problem be connected? I looked at the cap and there are cracks around the vent hole on top. I'll replace it and see what happens. When I ran the car with the cap off, it seemed fine but maybe it wasn't run long enough. One trip with the cap loose should tell a lot. I'm just glad there should be no connection between the pcv job and the pressure problem. Thanks for the help.

I'm assuming you drained the coolant down to do the PCV service.
When you filled the system back up you may have got an air lock and all that happened was the car 'burped' to clear the air.
When you did this work, did you swap the thermostat out? My local dealer foreman recommends changing it every 2 year max. It may be the thermostat stuck after sitting.
Go through the stuff the guys have suggested, and change the header tank cap. I think you may find it was just the car burping.
Neil.
