I agree that getting a gauge onto the car and being
absolutely sure that there's oil pressure is job 1.
But most of the cars that I've worked on have an
oil pressure switch that's looking for a ground if
the oil pressure is below the switch's set point.
This is just a simple, one wire sensor. I've never
actually checked, but I'd lean towards this being
a switch that closes when there's no oil pressure.
And I'm pretty sure that the cluster is looking for
a ground to turn on the oil pressure warning lamp.
Anyone know for sure?
