96 850 Removing sunshade with closed top glass

I'd like to harvest a nice clean sunshade In a pnp yard.

The problem at the junk yard, of course, is no power to open the sunroof to get better access to the linkage.

So can this be done without removing the headliner?

With the top glass in closed position, the plastic linkage covers are visible, but on a quick try, couldn't get a grip on them to pull them out.

Is there a way I"m not seeing?

Aside from a BFH, using a 12 volt drill battery with jumpers and connect directly to the sun roof motor wires.

Good news is it doesn't need to be open, don;t worry about it at all.

The last time I pulled one, I removed the headliner and then removed the sunroof. I don't remember exactly how I accessed the fasteners but I know it was straightforward. It is heavy and wants to fall, be strategic about which bolts you remove when.

Unless you can get the plastic covers off on each side your going to be stuck taking the whole thing out, which means dropping the headliner.

When I bought my 93 in 2008 the sunroof linkage was broken so the whole panel got replaced. I recall pulling the headliner from a sedan (which was cleaner than mine so I replaced that too), and I agree the whole panel is a handful for one person. The sedan was cleaner than mine, too, with just a crumpled right front fender. Otherwise, nearly mint.

Now that sunshade fabric has come loose. I kind of like kahl's idea of putting a drill battery on the wires to operate it, interesting. I might try that or just use the Accuclip fix mentioned in the thread on this topic. I'm getting more partial to the 96 wagons, so I'll probably keep the 93 in good mechanical condition and continue to drive it in winter only, so fewer elaborate repairs, though it would be nice to have a clean newish looking shade up there.
