99 S70t5 Make radio antenna shorter?
My antenna decided to hit a gate coming down or the other way around but I bought a new one. My question is because the stock antenna goes up so high is it possible to make this one go up only half the way by cutting the plastic wire? Also which way does the plastic teeth face? I didn't pay attention when I pulled the old one out. Thanks!!

It won't work to cut the toothed cable. What it does if you cut it in half is that it disconnects from the sprocket inside the antenna motor the first time it goes up and it will no longer go down.

I lowered my antenna, then open the trunk and d/c the wiring. So the antenna does not go up any more.
In the city, zero issues with FM stations.
In my experience, whether the antenna is fully extended or retracted, it makes little difference to me...
PS: Another option is to extend it to the height you want (during antenna going up, cut the ignition at the height you want), then d/c the connector. It will stay at that height until you change it.

I agree with CN90 Power antenae's are all troublesome. My antenae started making noise and not working properly so I pulled the fuse when it was up and then manually pushed it down so it doesn't look like a CB radio antenae. I love turning on/off the stereo and not hearing a motor working. The fuse was 30A so I'm only helping the battery too.

That's right;speedyt5 wrote:Thanks all. It seems like someone would of made an aftermarket one that doesn't go up so high!
With these thunderstorms, the antenna going up too high may pose a serious lightning hazard
Example of Precision: Measure with a Micrometer, mark it with Chalk, and then cut it with an Axe.
