Volvo Repair Database 00 S70T5M Made new shift cable bushings

Post by RussB »

The factory rubber/plastic bushing were worn out and sloppy. I made one from white Delrin, the other from some some high-strength PVC we had at work. I used 7/32" E-Clips to secure them. Adding these made a very significant difference in shifting feel and crispness.

Here's a sketch. I used an "O" drill (.316") to allow for a bit of clearance on the shift lever pins (8mm/.314" diameter)

Nice work Russ - always cool to see custom projects like this. So now people have used brass bushings from old Toyota Tercels, SS from Snabb, spherical bearings from Kaplhenke, and custom delrin. Pretty good range of options I'd say!

I'm curious to see how well these materials hold up to the heat. Seeing as the stock bushings are rubber & plastic, I think these will be just fine
