1998 V70R 125,000 miles, rear shock problems

Post by roncop »

Can someone tell me if V70 rear shocks will fit on my "R". Left Rear is blown and car bounces all over the road. Dealer wants $600. for one shock! I have the possibility to purchase a koni suspension (springs and shocks) from a V70...Will they fit? If not, is there any replacement parts that are more reasonably priced? Thanks, Roncop

Not so easily.
NO ONE makes a (rear) shock that will bolt in an R to replace the Nivomat.
I would suggest you ask over at either (or both) Volvospeed.com or V70R.com where many R owners reside and modify their cars (and wagons).
Whatever you do, it will NOT be cheaper than a $5-600 Nivomat
plus you MUST replace them in pairs or you will have one really evil handing R

If you're on a tight budget, you might want to try purchasing a tested used piece from a salvage yard. try http://www.car-part.com to locate the part near you. If you cant find anything locally, most of the wreckers on there have no problem shipping for a reasonable price. I've found this website to be a very very great tool.

Not too many wrecked R 's around with low mileage.
You would be nuts to install USED shocks

I agree that installing a pair of new shocks would be ideal, but sometimes it's difficult for some people to come up with $1200+ at a moment's notice. My suggestion was to help our friend here get back on the road faster if money is a concern. Some people might say you'd be "nuts" to pay $600 a piece for a shock. Though, i understand parts prices are high, especially for a vehicle of this type, my intent was only to offer a secondary suggestion. I hope you understand.

I do understand. If you DO find used ones, make sure they're OK AND they match, buy a pair
