Volvo 244 front brake upgrade

Post by Oz244 »

How do you fit 760 disc's & calipers to a '79 244?
Can you fit the whole 760 strut or just bolt the 760 spindles to the 244 strut?

the suspension is completely different, as are the brakes. the only upgrade is to get the vented rotors and wider calipers off any later 240 without abs. good luck, chuck.

Exactly right, don't even think of going to the 700 series brake, the vented 200 series are better.

The 200 vented are a bolt on, all that is needed are the rotors and calipers, I would buy new rotors and calipers are easy to find at your local wreckers.

Thank you for your words of wisdom, this is my first volvo after many valiants and fords and still trying to find my way around them.
My goal is to fit a 351 cleveland but have to have the rest sorted first.

Which model 240 has the brakes in question?

The 351C conversion is an ambituous one. If you notice I have a 302W in my 700 series, the Cleveland engine is much wider (and generally larger) than the Windsor making it a very very tight fit. The common conversions are the Windsor or Small Block Chev

As for brakes the GT, GLE and many newer model, later 1980's, came with vented rotors. The brakes are identical just that the rotors are wider and subsequently the calipers are also wider to fit the vented rotors. Take a trip to your local salvage yard, they should have some.

The only reason for the cleveland is that I already have one, A block Chrysler would be my first choice of motorvation. (the volvo is actually wider across the strut towers than the ford which the cleveland is in)
Any other words of wisdom on the V8 fitment would be appreciated.
