This is the situation. I have a 2002 S80 T6 w/2.9 twin turbo w/56,000 miles. The check engine light comes on and I take it into checkers and hook it up to the OBD2 reader and it has code PO432 (Main Catalyst Efficiency Below Threshold - Bank 2). The guy reset it and about the 5th restart light came back on. I brang it back and he resets it again. Same thing again about the 5th restart light came back on. I drove the vehicle for about 4-weeks with the light on and it did not seem to effect the performance at all. So today I brought it back to Checkers and it has the same code P0432 plus P0422 for bank 1. The guy at checkers tells me I need to replace all O2 sensors. He tells me that the car has a total of 6 O2 sensors and no way of telling which ones are bad. I go home and look around and can only find 4 total O2 sensors, two located between the firewall and back side of engine and two under the car in the Y just before entering the Catalytic converter. What do I do? Replace them all or does anyone have any wisdom on this situation. And buy the way I did buy a OBD2 scan tool the last time I was into Checkers since the check engine light is on more than it is off. Any help or advice is greatly appreciated. Cale
P.S. At the end of the conversation with the guy at checkers he tells me it may not even be the sensors bad at all and could be something wrong with the turbo.
2002 S80 T6 need help on O2 Sensors
I have the same vehicle as yours believe after a couple of tries with the local auto supply house confirming nothing, would head for the dealer..
I've found the majority parts people at places like Checker, Auto-Zone, and Pep-Boys really hav'nt the knowledge on Volvos as they do on say Fords and Chevys...No dis-respect met, but Volvo is quite different than American cars and even though Ford holds the purse strings, they really don't like working on them....
I purchased mine thru a Ford dealer and one of the incintives was oil/filter and tire rotation ea. 5000 miles for as long as I own the vehicle...I see just a little frown whenever I drive in for this service..(But they do it O.K.)
Good luck
I totally agree with you on the fact a Volvo dealer has the most knowledge on fixing my car. The problem is the nearest dealer is about 85 miles and the estimated coast for the repair would run $800-$900 to replace two O2 sensors if that is what the problem is. The last time I had it in they charged me $140 to diagnose the problem (10 min job) and sold me a part for $174 to fix it myself and ended up selling me the wrong part. Bottom line after 3 trips and me a little p*** off I had it fixed. I found out later I could have bought the OEM part online for $120. They charged me retail for the part they sold me. I love everything about the car tell the check engine light comes on then all I can think of is more $$$$. I did take the car into a very respected locale auto mechanic today. They had it hooked up to the computer and monitored the O2 sensors and found them to be working fine. I am very much so a DIY guy and looking for guidance on resolving the problem. I will post new thread since this one has taken a strange twist.
You might inquire thru this forum and the (volvo-forum.com) which is a bit more actice than Matthews about anyone in and around your area possible knowing or could recommend a shop that may solve your problem...
Good luck....

To me all of the issues above sound like a vacuum leak causing gas-air mixture to be off, thus triggering 02 like codes. I would check all hoses to make sure you don't have leaks.
