Intermittent stalling when accelerating from stop, 1997, 960
Car starts fine regardless of temperature. Has 152,000 miles. Sometimes it stalls when starting from stop, doesn't seem to be related to cornering or straight line start. Engine does not stop just struggles for several seconds and then seems to regain power and everything is fine until the next incident. Is a safety hazard as you never know when it will happen, oncoming and following vehicles have to make a rapid adjustment.

Welcome to Matthew's Volvo Site.
Have you had the fault codes read? If you are from the US I am led to believe you can have this done free at Autozone and other places.
Find out what codes are stored and post them so we can help.

Ran quickie diagnostic and code shown was p1072, system too rich.
Initial start seems to take more than one or two cranks.
Most driving is around town so haven't noticed any drop in mileage.
Air filter is clean.
Have also noticed that on occasion when removing gas fill cap an excessive amount of pressure being relieved. Feels like fuel tank is pressurized.
Is this a sticking throttle body, throttle position sensor or mass air sensor.

Should that be P0172?
Here is a link which gives advice on what to do:

This could be linked to the fuel delivery problem mentioned. If your tank is not venting as the fuel goes down it will create a partial vacuum.Have also noticed that on occasion when removing gas fill cap an excessive amount of pressure being relieved. Feels like fuel tank is pressurized.
