I agree. Post #6 was on the money. Never ever would I have thought that a simple issue like "REALLY OILING" the cylinder walls on an engine would solve what would seem in the normal world almost impossible to comprehend. I have rebuilt many many engines and except for oiling the cylinder walls to install pistons, I never ever encountered a problem like this. Like they say, "you never know it all". Since I am a believer in the advice of the experienced, I never hesitated to try the advice given on this forum. Common sense has never been found in a text book. So I say KUDOS to all of you who had anything to do with helping me solve my problem.
BTW, I told a couple of my "FOREIGN" car mechanic friends ( who had all recommended a complete rebuild) what was done to resolve the issue I had, and they all think that it's total BS. They all think that I replaced the engine and I am only saying that that is what was done. They really think I am not telling them the truth.
FYI: Total cost for this job was under $400.00. This includes purchasing 2 tubes of Anaerobic Sealant from the Volvo dealer, one for the head job and another when I dropped the sump @ $51.00 each but well worth it. Perfect seal. Your input >> PRICELESS.
Again, I cannot say 'Thank You' enough for all the encouragement that was exhibited throughout this process.THANK YOU, THANK YOU ALL.
Frank.

scot850 is right - no knowledge is wasted knowledge, and at the very least you've got excellent insight into your engine.
If you want some ammo for your car mech friends, the explanation I got from old timers when I had a '74 Escort MK I (which would also experience the "lawnmower syndrome"), was that the oil breaks up the unburned fuel on the cold cylinder walls, and lets the piston seal again. You then burn both the oil and fuel with a nice little cloud as a result. I don't know if that's what's actually going on, but it's plausible, I guess.

I was a "skeptic" on LMS but it was reported by reputable people here.....until it hit our BMW this fall. You swear that your engine is dead.

I haven't posted for a while as I was busy doing stuff on my now running S70 , thanks to you guys.
Since getting the car to run, I have been doing some needed maintenance on the car.
I replaced all of the hoses related to the cooling system with OEM parts. I also replaced the Expansion Tank which had a hairline crack that would only leak when hot. I had a leak at the hose at the bottom of the E-tank that would not stop even though I replaced the hose and clamp. On examination I saw the hairline cracks so off to the dealer I went. Could have been part of the initial problems that caused the overheating in the first place.
I am now putting some money together to purchase a replacement radiator.
The top hose outlet was repaired with an adapter by a radiator shop, but I am afraid the the epoxy they used to glue the adapter inside the outlet will fail when I least expect it.
Anyone with a good source for a radiator?
After I am done with the cooling system, I will be doing the hoses for the power steering. I am pricing the parts I would need to complete this job.
Thanks again guys.

Interesting how when we put some effort into a car, and it virtually comes back to life for us, it's easy to lavish some love on it. Replacing the RMS on my wagon made me fall in love with it all over again.
Go with a Nissens or Genuine Volvo radiator. I have one Behr and one from Auto Zone. Both were made in China--cheaply made and fit poorly.

Great to hear that the LMS was the culprit after all.
The Indian made Hella-Behr radiator I fiitted to a customer's car had a torn drain plug O ring with only one use.
The Valeo one from the dealer I fitted to my own V70 was a beautifully made sculpture of plastic and aluminium

Nice, Mike; the Valeo radiators are excellent.
