New Vehicle Warranty Service Stories

Post by mrbrian200 »

This doesn't specifically apply to myself (My S60 is 10 years old purchased used)...
But! There does seem to be an inordinate number of stories floating around from new car owners, outlining issues with new warranty claims. Clearly problems should be covered under warranty, with some dealer service departments citing some pretty wild-n-crazy sounding reasons to deny warranty coverage and soak the new vehicle owner, who has done nothing wrong, for repairs.

Consider that Volvo is a luxury only make at this point. Lower volume sales and no high volume/base models that typically make the "bread and butter" for other makes/dealers. Analogy: Lincoln/Ford, Acura/Honda etc. This puts more pressure on the service department to add revenue.

My question is, for Volvo, could double billing be a problem? (Dealers attempting to charge owners for warranty service -AND- filing a claim/billing VCNA) At a glance it sure looks suspicious that these sorts of fraudulent practices might be happening at an unusually high rate. How close, really, is the relationship between parent co. Greely, VCNA, and individual dealers? Greely is, after all, a relatively new player. Tesla (also a new player), by contrast, is effectively a small tightly knit operation run by, we'll say, a well documented micromanager who appears to actually be pretty good at it.

fter the next week or two as I finish on the standing maintenance issues (previous owner neglect (engine/management)+ some fab issues that require major service at a somewhat premature age/mileage (bushings), My gut is telling me I'm going to end up really, really loving this S60. The question is: even if it turns out to be a really good car for me, where is Greely headed with the brand? (Even after loving this one, is my "first Volvo" destined to also be my "last Volvo"?) considering the next one I might consider (years away) is likely to be a year/model well established into the Greely domain.
