1998 V70 key will not turn
Just got a car back with the key not turning all the way. It goes in and out fine but will not turn past the accessories position. Is this a situation where I can cut the bottom of the ignition assembly open and remove some broken price that is jammed in there or will the ignition assembly need to be replaced?

I would say yes, cut the bottom of the assembly and I bet a broken piece will fall right out. At least, that's what happened for me on our 1998 S70.

Yeah I don't think anyone is going to be able to do more than guess that it is indeed probably the case, this is one where you have to just open it up. Tell us what you find, please!

Will do. It will be a few days, I need to get a title issue cleared up. Not spending a dime or 5 minutes on it until that is done.

I wanted to quick add on to this thread. I have 2006 V70 R that left my wife stranded at the grocery store with the key not turning. After finding this and the original thread by cn90, I cut open the bottom of the cylinder housing and indeed a spring fell out. However, this was just the beginning because in this case the broken piece or hang up with the Wheel Lock mechanism did not just fall out and no amount of prying and the like got it to release.
It was after 11pm but still a balmy 30 F degrees so after consulting with my buddy we started hacking into the body of the WL mechanism as well as cutting what appeared to be some pin holding it in. After slashing through it I drilled into aiming for the corners so as to avoid the cylinder and lock mechanism...it shifted downward and the ordeal was over car runs great. It actually drives better, steering is smoother, and what I thought was a going-bad lock cylinder as returned to normal with the disabling of the WL.
Check out out this handywork
