Rear wiper Problems

Post by RobbieJ »

V70 2004 2.4 D5(90k miles)

My rear wash wiper stops working whether I have it on full or intermittent? If I have it on nothing happens until I go to the back and give it a nudge, then it will move about 5 inches and stop again. If I nudge it again it will carry on as normal and complete the rest of the cycle/stroke and returns but then fails to carry on or continue? If I remove the arm off the spindle altogether the motor works perfectly ok just not with the wiper blade and arm attached!

Can anyone throw some light on this?

I think you will find what you are looking for in the following tread.

As I understand it, the shaft rust over time and friction increase with the housing. Only the shaft need to be disassembled, cleaned and lubricated. Some have sprayed it in place with WD-40 but it is not a permanent fix.

I have it on my to do list :) .

When my rear wiper quit working, I assumed that the shaft had frozen up due to the mag-chloride put on the roads here in Colorado. When I checked the wires at the motor for current; the yellow wire was hot, but the white wire was not energizing when the switch was turned either to intermittent or full time. It turns out that the white wire had broken where it goes through the hinge.

I found this YouTube for how to remove the wiper arm from the shaft. Looks pretty easy!
