2006 XC70 is having a bunch of intermittent CAN problems (I think).
Feels like brakes are applied (Traction Control), PRND indicator on IP shows a dash, ABS light comes on, DIM displays Transmission Service Required, and other various indications. Check Engine light stays on. Displays a gazillion codes; dealer has no idea and can’t replicate intermittent problem.
I want to clean the electrical connectors on the ABS, ECM, and Transmission modules, but I’ve already had bad luck with plastic parts breaking.
Any advice on disconnecting the ABS electrical connector (the one below the master cylinder)?
How do you get the ECM and TCM modules out without breaking plastic bits?
Anyone else have this problem?
Thanks,

You need a tool to remove both ECM and TCM. On You Tube search Volvo ECM removal and you'll find a video by ARD Tuning. IPD USA sell the tool for around $35
Once you have done all this and find it hasn't helped you will be looking into CEM replacement.

if you have access to vida/dice, i would start by pulling the codes. you can also probe fuse 15 on the cem for power with the car running. this is power to the abs module. i would start here as it is easier than accessing the abs module. if no power, this indicates a high likelyhood the cem needs rebuilding.
there are also troubleshooting flowcharts on the xemodex website,
http://xemodex.com/us/knowledgebase/bcm ... 2002-2004/
this is for 2002 to 2004 model. diagnostic is similar for '06, but you can't replace the p/s relays, must be sent to xemodex.
there is a video tutorial for cem removal,

Just wanted to do a follow-up on this issue.
I went through car & removed, and in some cases cleaned, every CAN module & connector.
Car has gone 2 months now without problems or codes.
BUT - I am beginning to think rear differential hydraulic Haldex motor is failing and that may be root cause of problems.

Rear Haldex module is called DEM and sits low on rear differential. It often has water or Haldex oil ingress causing shorting of Canbus and possible CEM damage.
Did you remove its connector and clean that as well?
