Hi everyone, I need a little help determining what I need for parts.. this is my current issue I have noticed.
The past couple times that I filled my tank I noticed a sputter. I have driven, came to a complete stop and it has stalled out on me. I then had to crank it a couple times and rev it up to keep it started. Again, this happens only when I completely fill up my tank. Before I start looking into what fuel pump I need, I'd like to see what anyone else thinks it could be if it could be something else. Any ideas?
Also, I have a code for malfunctioning catylic converter, I'm looking to order one but I'm unsure of exactly what I need. I have the 2.4 turbo.
Thanks for the help!!!

Some long shots... 1.) Are you running the tank to the bottom and picking up dirt at the time of fill-up? 2.) I have seem fuel pump relays that were "spotty" when they started to fail. The solders got brittle/old and kinda seemed to be effected by humidity, or something unknown. If you have a spare fuel pump relay it can't hurt to swap it as an easy item to eliminate.

How far do you fill the tank? I found early on that you cannot go beyond the point where the pump shuts itself off to round up to the next round amount. What happens is that the gasoline gets into the EVAP system vapor lines and goes into the charcoal cannister as liquid. If you stop at the click it should stop that bad behavior.
What is the code that you are posting that leads you to believe you have a bad catalytic converter? It could be a bad rear oxygen sensor rather than the converter itself. Post the code back with its Pxxxx number. Usually a truly bad converter rattles like it is full of gravel and the power is terrible.

It could very well be a collaboration of both things.. Letting my tank run down until I only have 30 miles left and also pushing that extra amount in after it's clicked. Maybe that'll solve my issue because it's perfectly fine the rest of the week or two that it takes for my level to go down.. I literally just have that tough time that day I fill the tank up.
I will have to rescan it for the codes, I can't find the paper anywhere. One of them specifically said something about misfire due to catylic converter malfunctioning then there were two other p codes because of it. I do remember with the years I've worked on VW that false codes can be thrown because of something else malfunctioning so maybe it is o2 sensors.
Thanks for the feedback! I'll let you know how I make out and I'll be back with those codes also.

The poor cat efficiency code is rarely a bad cat. Once poor running hits, the codes mount up and are less useful for pointing to the fault.
