I'll soon be replacing my odometer gears and suspect the actual mileage of this base 855 (a good runner) is far higher than the odometer read when it stopped working at ~145k.

I found the tutorial on MVS for using the ELM 327. This thread and the links within is a masters degree level dissertation on this topic. I've used an ELM 327 with a smart phone on a trip several years ago and, while it worked to display mpg, which was my main interest, I had no idea it had this much functionality. Anyway, if the instrument cluster ("COMBI") is original, I will finally know the exact mileage of this car. Cool.
