Hi All,
Was excited to get my parcel from FCP. Took me ages to save the cash, but got there eventually.
Lower control arms, end links, mounts etc.
Removed the LHS LCA and must have wrestled a bit to hard with the rotor/axle and pulled the bloody inner CV joint/knuckle apart. I can't for the life of me get it to seat back in.
To make things worse I stupidly had a friend put the car in drive to see if it had seated and it went clunk clunk clunk whilst twisting the inner boot around on itself. I got them to stop as soon as I saw it twist and the boot didn't tear.
I need this car back on the road ASAP. I'm going to get a cheap LHS driveshaft tomorrow to install as I don't have time to recondition the old one.
I'm going to try to repack and reboot the old one once it's out of the car for future use when I have the time.
So my question is: Do you think the old one may be completely stuffed b/c of my idiocy in getting power to it whilst the inner knuckle/joint was disconnected?
I'd really like to refurbish it as it's an original Volvo one and I'm not confident that the $130 replacement axle is going to last for a great deal of time (I could be wrong, but the price seems too cheap).
Cheers

I did the same on my passenger side (RHS) outer CV doing the FWB on my 1999. I just took off the clip from the boot, pulled the boot back, put the balls.race, and socket back together, secured boot with a long zip tie pulled tight.

Hi abscate
I'll have a look at it once I get it out. I might take some photos with the boot removed as well. On further searching it seems a not so uncommon issue when replacing the control arms. I'll report back.

These joints are tough and hardy on these cars. A bit of pitting, scratches galling isn't a problem.

Thanks guys
Apologies for the delay.
Could not get the old driveshaft out of the transfer case/transmission.
Action was: pulled back the inner boot, aligned the "three wheeled" knuckle to the housing and gave the other end of the drive shaft a good solid tap with a mallet to reseat it.
Regreased it with some grease (probably not the right stuff) pulled boot back into place and new fastener/tie attached
Result: car back on road for last 5000 kms no problem.
Have a new driveshaft sitting in garage collecting dust.

That OEM one will outlast anything new, so Im glad it wasn't trashed.
