Hi,
My name is Marcos. Im writing from Canary Islands, Spain. Although I've been reading this forum for some time this is my first post.
The question is that I am about to buy an engine for my 850 wagon (engine code B5254S).
I recently found a crack in the head. I've been looking for an used head but all I could find locally was a complete B5244S engine.
Since I had also a crack seal leak I thought I could put the B5244S engine and then install the distributor, intake, and all the stuff from the B5254S. Is that possible?
Also, is it possible to put tje 5244 head in the 5254 engine?
Thanks a lot

No luck there Marcos.
The intake ports are drastically different especially if your 850 is not running VVIS.
The cams have pickup for the cam sensor on the opposite side of the head. You can put the B5244S head on a 850 block however the head will have 2 accessory bracket holes missing. They will need to be added by means of aluminium welding and tapping new threads or other method. Also you may have to use the mechanical tensioner for the timing belt. Again you need to tap a M8 x 1.25 thread.
Also the NA B5244S has a CVVT on the intake cam. You will need to control this from moving.
You may be able to use the leads and distributor from the 850 on the B5244S head with some modification however you can't place 850 cams in the B5244S as they run different journals.
You'll also need to use the B5244S plastic covers at the front.
In all quite a lot of modification and time wasted.

Hey no problem. The reason I know this is because I've retrofitted an 850 block into a 1999 V70 and used the original head. In your case head is cactus so a whole new ball game.
