T5 reliability
I posted a few weeks ago regarding a 2.4T LPT, that deal fell through. I have since found a T-5 wagon that I'm interested in. I was trying to stay away from the T-5's, even though they are a blast to drive, because of the high pressure turbo. Maybe some of you experts can ease my mind. What is the long term reliability of these cars with the high pressure turbo? I've heard that you can expect problems out of a volvo equipped with the high pressure turbo, eventually. Has anyone noticed this, if so what mileage does this occur on average, assuming a car has been maintained properly. Thanks for any help and I apologize for the rookie questions.

I also have one other question. Does the T5 require 93 octane gas or is 89 or even any grade sufficient?

93 is recommended and the car runs much better with it...keeps injectors clean. You can run the lesser grade but the car is nothing like it should be and you get decreased mpg. Hope this answers your question.

My '02 T5 5spd S60 gets over 26 MPG on the highway with regular gas. It does perform a little better with a higher grade fuel but only a little better.
It has 65K on it. At just before 50K it sucked a valve which Volvo took care of. I don't know how common this is. This car is not abused.
You really have to keep your foot in it to get less than 19 MPG. Steady highway, almost 30. It's a high-performance economy car. IMHO
The only think I could wish for would be that it had the turning radius of my 99 V70 or any old 240, 740 etc.!
