Dipstick question Volvo 850t.
What is the upgraded engine oil dipstick that applies to 850, and can it be located at a salvage yard? Meaning, can I find, for example, a dipstick and holder from a 2000 XC that I can drop in as a replacement for mine? Thanks.

Later dip-stick has 2 rubber 'O' ring seals to prevent the dip-stick blowing out. You will need to check 2 things before trying a different one:
1) measure the distance from the point in the block where the dip-stick tube enters to the bolt position on the intake manifold. If they are the same them this is good.
2) Measure the length of the dip-stick protruding from the bottom of the dip-stick tube and ensure the Max/Min lines are at the same point. I had a car that I measured the oil into the engine after oil/filter change and discovered the lines didn't work as a PO had interchanges tube and stick so car was always showing it was short of oil.

I can do that, thanks. I can pick up tube and stick for I'm guessing about 6 bucks from local Pic-n-Pull, from later model Volvo (2000 V70) that has double 0 ring seals. Mine isn't leaking especially, but while I'm thinking about it takes about 5 minutes to pull. So might be worth it.

Volvo 850 actually have two different oil dipsticks for older and newer engines.
Orange one and fluorescent one.
Fluorescent one is for models after '95.
Difference between two of them is that on Red... between min & max is one liter and on Fluorescent one it is 1.5l from min to max mark.
Fluorescent one is the one with two o-rings at the top.

This setup will work just fine for your 850. The double-ring ones seal better, as long as your car's PCV is good that is a plus.rguzz wrote:I can do that, thanks.
