stuck bolt in particulate filter

Post by rodiram »

Dear forum,
I am replacing the particulate filter in my 2006 XC90 D5 (185).
But I can't remove the bolt that connect the long line to the filter. I tried WD-40 and a blowtorch with no success. I turn counter-clockwise. I am afraid that if I use an extension to my 24mm wrench I may brake the bolt. Am I doing something wrong ??
Thanks !

Bon jour...

WD 40 is not a good penetrating oil for stuck bolts, you should soak that bolt for a few days with a product like Liquid Wrench , Kroil, or PB Blaster.

That looks like 400 series stainless. It will show heat by bluing. You need to heat the filter and keep the heat away from the screw. Get the filter bung orange hot ( you should see some blue stains after doing it. ) then turn the screw while the bung is hot. Use a fire blanket as needed . You can put a pipe in the end of the filter for leverage.

If it wont budge, count to ten as the heat dissipates and try again without heating. At some point the outer ring (bung will be hotter than the center screw and this will allow its removal. Always inspect visible thread to assure which way releases/tightens

If it still wont budge you may want to by a new line for the new filter.
