New Volvo 740 owner with a radio problem

Post by N/ABrick16 »

Hello all,

Me and my girlfriend recently purchased a 1991 Volvo 740. Everything works fine, and the car drives great! As with all my used car purchases, we went through the fuse box and fixed a few issues. We replaced the seat belt buckle on her side and the brake master cylinder so far. We still have a few gremlins we would like to iron out and I was wondering if you guys can help us out.

-Radio not working. It won't turn on at all. Fuse is fine, maybe it could be the relay? If possible, where is the relay for the radio located? I know there's also a code we might have to input but my concern is getting the radio to turn on first. Anything on this is very much appreciated.

-Heated seats not working. The indicator light on the switches come on, but no heat. Anyone had this problem before?

- SRS light is on. What could that be?

We had a local Volvo dealer go through the car, but they don't want anything to do with the radio and heated seats. They also told us that replacing the buckle on the driver's side seat belt would fix the SRS light issue but alas to no avail. I look forward to everyone's help.

Yours is about 25 years old, so one might re-visit the Volvo dealer and asked them if Volvo extended their previous recommendation.

radio and heated seats
If all fuses are good, and a DIYer did not alter electrical wiring/etc., this would suggest a dead radio; I don't mess with radios.

There should be a plug under each heated seat, so unplug it, and check voltage when switch is turned on. Since heated seats have burned seats when someone is not sitting on them, I disconnected both of them.
