Volvo 850 Alternator connections

Post by Cincyken »

I have a spare alternator for my Volvo 850 T5-R that I have never used. The alternator for my 1971 Triumph TR6 went out. It actually has a GM 7127 alternator on it now. Strangely enough the spare Bosch alternator fits almost perfectly on my TR6 and saves me from buying a new unit (I had to switch pulleys but that was easy).
The GM 7127 has 3 connections: B post for battery, terminal 1 for ignition bulb, terminal 2 for the voltage sensing input.
But the Bosch Alternator has only two: B+ post for the battery, D+ terminal (which appears to be for the ignition light).
Here is my issue....I have the spare Bosch alternator, it fits well and looks good on my TR6, but I don't understand how to go from a 3 wire system to a two wire alternator.
I know the simple answer is to just buy another GM 7127 and quite wasting my time, but if possible I would like to use the Bosch unit.
Being retired, I have more time than money.
Any ideas?
