Hello Everyone,
I'm at 118K (99s70 base), and looking for pre-emptive maintenance / repair ideas to head off any major problems.
Some of this might be answered by knowing how long certain components on this car typically last:
i.e., Muffler, Catalytic Converter, Alternator, Transmission (had a flush at 90K maintenance, I think), lower engine mounts, AC compressor, front end components, struts/shocks, wheel bearings, brake calipers, power steering pump, power steering hose(s), master cylinder. All of these components are original.
Components replaced include: oxygen sensors, A/C evaporator, ETM, ignition switch, ABS module, timing belt, water pump (I think), upper engine mount, one control arm, outer cv boots, and brake pads/rotors, battery, tires, spark plugs.
I guess for certain components, you can just wait til they fail, but if somethings way past anticipated life, it might be worth replacing to avoid an untimely tow or "car in shop" situation, and/or letting a marginal problem create a huge one.
Thanks,
Silver99s70

You need to give your brakes a good flushing out every few years. Most people dont realize this. If you can do it yourself use the Motive brake flusher. It makes it a one man job.

Power steering reservoir- I put a magnet in mine also I have a magnafine filter hooked up to the line. And of course I flushed out all the fluid before I did this stuff.
Some people have developed huge problems with the steering rack so I would look into doing the above or something with your power steering fluid. The little metal particles do damage to the rack.

Thanks for the info MIA,
Just got new pads and rotors today, and, let the guy talk me into changing the brake fluid too- I don't know if it was a "flush", or more of a drain and fill, but either way seems to be at least sort of in-line with your input.
I will look into the power steering / fluid history also, and see if it ever got done with other maintenance. Thanks for that one also.
Any more info available on the magnafine filter ? Is there a kit, and/or any postings with info on that ?
Regards,
Silver

This is what they look like. You put it on the power steering line. I got mine on Ebay. Some people put them on the transmission line also.

Read this to about magnefine. I wanted to protect my power steering system and rack after reading alot of threads on volvospeed where people had to replace the rack because they were leaking a few years ago. http://www.emergingent.com/magnefine/in ... n_page.htm
