'04 v70 Yesterday I got caught in a deluge and went through a couple of puddles. almost immediately I began to run on about 3 cylinders. Shortly, the CEL began flashing and power further reduced. I pulled into a parking lot I own to let it idle and dry. It died. Gave it an hour to dry and tried again, no luck. Had AAA bring it home, where it is now. A day later, it still won't start. I have no way to pull codes. Any ideas. Spins fine, no noises. Bystanders reported a burning smell, I could not detect it. There is pressure at the fuel rail.

don't worry about the burning smell. Water on hot engines smells horrible and thats not too indicative.

I bet water got up into the disributor and coil area or possibly roached cam/crank sensors, causing your no start.

Diagnose ignition side -the logical side to start after a water 'incident'

Problem solved and not as bad as I feared. Hitting the puddle may, or may not, have been a coincidence. The problem was basically that no. 2 coil shorted. This caused the immediate power loss. Eventually the short blew the fuse (No. 11 IIRC) that killed the entire ignition. New coil, new fuse, and I was on my way.
