It looks like all of you are absolutely correct with the light on in the glove compartment. It seems as though the push button to shut off the light is not extended enough out of the glove box material to be pressed in when closed. The material is very loose so i dont want to unscrew anything to get to the light. Does anyone have any recommendations to possibly put on the inside of the glove box door so that when it closes, it will push the button in?

You might want to see if you can get a replacement piece from a PnP... I can't imagine it would cost more than a dollar. OR you can take it apart, clean it, and possibly replace the spring. Though, if I had that problem, I would probably just take out the light bulb and leave a little LED flashlight in there for when you need to illuminate the glove box. I've read that the more you start taking out the plastic pieces around the glove box and reinstalling, the greater the likelihood that some brittle plastic will break, contributing to even more dash rattle than normal! :?

Is it as simple as removing the light bulb, or does anything else need to be removed? I went in and removed the bulb, so hopefully that is all that needed to be done. As far as the headlights, they can be left on and they will not drain the battery once the car is turned off?

Right; lights off with switch on means no drain on the battery. Like I mentioned that's how the switch is designed so you don't kill your battery from accidentally leaving the lights on. Some cars will chime with key off lights on which I think is annoying. I don't know why a car would ever be designed to not turn its lights off automatically.

Some people actually break the bulb in the glove box to keep this from happening. The better fix is to get the latch to work correctly (or replace the metal piece in the door assembly) so that the latch closes all the way and turns the light out. It is a common parasitic draw on these cars- it happened to all the 850's we've ever owned as well as my S70.

I had to remove the light bulb. The issue was that the interior glove box could not be tightened in with the torx screws to allow the spring push button to come out enough to be pushed in by door. The glove box material where the torx screws go in was was ripped so essentially the screws were just there for looks.

I have taped pennies in front of that plunger button to get the light to go off! There's a will, there's a way!! Taking the bulb out is also a decent alternative until you need to find something in there in the dark... LOL
