ISO 00 V70R Transmission Options ?

So my 00 VR auto transmission took a crap at 285k. Eh in my opinion it had a good run since i've only had it for about 15k in my possession. Here's a lil info to help aid in your responses. Car at this time is permanent FWD w/ the removal of driveshaft and front angle gear. I swapped an 04 SR motor in it. From my research and P80 body style i'm looking for a

m56 or m58 (manual)
Rebuild @ Aamco for $3250 (auto)
Volvo $2200 complete tranny w/ torque converter (auto)

You can get used slush boxes for much cheaper from salvage yards and I think Erie Vo-Vo also carries stuff like that. I've never had a transmission rebuilt professionally but I've heard members on the forum recommend staying away from places like Aamco. A slush box from Volvo will work of course but that's a crazy amount to pay.

Before you spend a bunch of time on the manual you need to see about a proper ECU. On a 2000 the programming is tricky. Check with Lucky at ARD and also Xemodex to see if they can program an ECU and mate it to your car with a manual. It may be a two step process where you get the ECU burned for the manual and then get the software downloads from a dealer to actually make it play nicely with your car and your keys.

It is just a shame you are so far away. I have a spare 5 speed auto from a 2000 R in my garage and also an ECU and TCU. Can't guarantee any of the parts as they came from a parted out car. These are part of my 'future proofing' stash but I would always try to help out another 'R' owner if I can.
Have you tried Erie Vo-Vo or Southern that advertise here? Shipping would be a killer but VandSautodismantlers in Sacramento are also specialists Volvo and Saab breakers.

I'm also not sure if bluevanman still has any of the parts from his 2000 R he parted out. He is near Chicago and a great guy.
