A rancher, agitator, Amrein dies at 70

Eccentric’ or ‘ill,’ cowboy ecologist was a Jackson character.

Terrence “Terry” Amrein lived most his life in and around Jackson Hole, ranching and doing other people’s ranch work, taking odd jobs, sometimes sleeping in his van or borrowing a place to flop, orating at public meetings and butting heads with the powers that be.

Amrein was a man who was on good terms with some, bad with others, and good and bad alternately with a few. He was a Jackson Hole personality, a crank who still found people who saw something in him that made them willing to help him.
