1. Is there a special tool for the fancy Volvo pop rivets? I tried to refasten a couple on the front fender with a standard cheapy riveter and they splarged all over the place...
2. Anyone have (or can share) a drawing of the back bumper set up? I purchased one new bracket, but it looks as if I may have to cut all the bolts to replace it.
I would like to know bolt sizes/removal procedure...
Cheers,
dean

I use a cheap ACE hardware brand rivet gun and a combination of cheap rivets from Autozone and OEM Volvo rivets. Robert (rspi) knows the bumper set up well and I think he was even shipping rust free brackets from Arizona for a while.

I recently replaced the rear bumper on my '98 V70 with one from the salvage yard. I have extra brackets and mounting hardware from the donor car that I wound up not using. I reused the original hardware. Contact me if you are interested.

Using large headed rivets is the first step.
For me the second step was to squeeze the handle only enough to create the ball on the other side but to release the handle then cut the remaining metal stalk with a Dremel tool. That was the only way to prevent the rivet head from tearing through the guard liner.

Not sure but it sounds like they may be aftermarket--I think I added them to an order from FCP..chrafael wrote:If they're the aftermarket black plastic over aluminum rivets, it's not your riveter, it's the rivets. Try real Volvo rivets.
