possible diy maf fix

Post by FUBAR »

Code P1171 finally happend, I hear this is common maf failure, and a possible oxygen sensor problem. I find this funny since it happend the same day I put filled 'er up with Arco 92 gas and octane booster. A friend of mine just removed his maf and cleaned it, says that the CEL never came on after that, but no way to know for sure if any of the O2 sensors are bad vs maf?

I have not had a Volvo mass air meter apart, but they are all the same and need the same fix. Remove mass air from the car and spray the hot wire with a dose of brake cleaner or contact cleaner. Let it dry and re-install meter. If this does not fix it the meter is toast. (Assuming the meter was at fault)

I inspected the MAF, it looked really clean, but I gave it a good dose of CRC-MAF cleaner anyway, and reset the car. No CEL after a whole tank later. problem solved for the time being at least. Anyone know a good solution to the expensive MAF? I hear rumors about looking up bosch p/n, same MAF as some VW.

its been a little of 2k miles cel has not returned :D The "CRC MAF Cleaner" worked perfectly, despite the MAF looked clean before cleaning. Very happy I don't have to spend more!

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

I have bought 2 maf sensors in the past 6 months due to lea valley motors supplying me s--t , my c70 t5 has run like a dump truck i took it back to my local garage yesturday and he put in another maf sensor but the sensor was out of a vauxhall vectra the tech said any bosch maf sensor with the same electrial connector are the same wheather its for a vauxhall ford what ever. My vehical is now running supurb with the sensor in so dont be scammed by the main dealers for as volvo bosch part which could cost
