having two CVVT solenoids doesn't change the procedure much. you just have to make sure that the cam gears are properly indexed, then install the locking bar to keep the cams stationary. upon reinstallation you just have to make sure your index marks line up.

Ahh OK, I caught what he mentioned at the 5 minute mark " If you have dual CVVT solenoids you just have to make sure to do the same with the second one ".

Thanks, thats a big help.

Found the front end rattling to be a loose backplate when I changed front pads yesterday.

Today I thought a rear tire looked soft, pumped it up good and a lot of the drifting has gone,
its very minor to the point I'm not sure whether its actually doing it or not.

Maybe I'll find a bag of cash under the spare next...or just a donut. :D

The question was, is the rear cam locking tool needed- no, unless you're taking the cam cover off with the cams...Just lock the front after you get everything in place. but if you follow the procedure of going 1/4 turn past the marks and back up to the marks (clockwise first and then back, counter clockwise) your cams should hold where they are when the belt comes off. Actually, they hold better with the CVVT solenoids than if you didn't have them. If you're going to attempt this yourself, please read the different posts on this site about the "how to" and as many of the videos you can about this...there are 3 marks that have to line up- the top two cam gear marks and the bottom crank mark...if these are off, then there's going to be an issue when you try to put the new belt on and while it's off, you need to change out the tensioner and most likely the water pump... If your cam seals are leaking, then the cam gears have to come off too- best to mark them so they go on right after you finish the job and to get the right seals. There are a bunch of after market seals that don't work- they leak!! Okay, let us know how it all goes. Also, do listen to JRL- he has been dealing with these cars for a long time and what he says is usually spot on the money- it's hard to digest sometimes- the cost of replacing so many parts, etc., but reality is reality. I always say, pay now or pay later and when you pay later, you usually have to do a job (or several) over again and it's more $ in the long run. That's my best advice.
