Not far away from you in Bennett Valley!
Do you have a pic of the Bosch sticker so I may check the number? I don't think it''s compatible with my project car, but I'd still like to check.
Thanks

Thanks for posting that so quickly.
Indeed, I don't think this will work for a tune in mine- I believe the M4.4 were only used in my '97 GLT and the '98 HPT's, although I welcome correction by the resources here if wrong.
GLWS. I'll watch for your aqua bug around town.

It will work, you can swap 4.4 and 4.3 ECUs among the 850s, there is no difference in the wiring harnesses the difference is entirely within the ECU. I run 4.4 in my 95 T5. But a 4.3 in a 97 will work like a 4.3, slower startup etc ... and the car's little 13g will not provide the boost that a 15g will, so I'm pretty sure the engine won't make the few HP difference that an R ECU provides at the very top end.
The main thing to look at for compatibility is emissions, whether or not your 97 has the same components as the donor 96. If not, there could be a CEL for SAS etc. And finally you can't just swap the 4.3 ECU into a 98 with 4.4, it will cook the AC compressor.

Thank you Erikv11!
yeah, the T5 turbo and the R turbo are different pieces.
Although, Using my finely calibrated pants-seat-dynomameter, the car did have a faster acceleration and increased likelihood of freeway onramp wheelspin. which was super rad. Also, the gauge pushed beyond the 50% mark, which despite having the CBV and the ipd tcv, +silicone hoses, it didn't do before.

Yeah, when I made the 4.4 ECU for my 95 R, I gave up those extra horsies. Nothing refutes the butt dyno!
