Good evening everyone. Today I have completed the PCV system renewal on my wife's 2005 S60 2.5T. It was a hell of a job. After putting everything back together the car started right up but I discovered I had a fuel injector leaking air. I pulled the injectors replaced the O rings and the car fired to life with no issue. I also renewed the coolant as you have to disconnect some coolant lines for the procedure. After about a mile the car gave me the coolant level low light (to be expected as it was filled up with the thermostat closed) so I turned the car off topped off the coolant then went to drive off when you could feel the car sort of shimmy. Nothing major but you could tell something changed. Then it popped up a message "engine system service required". I tried to read codes with and OBDII scanner but it didn't give me anything. I noticed that I had not plugged the radiator fan back in so I did that but the fan still did not turn on. No temperature issues but the car still hasn't taken as much coolant as i was expecting to give it. I also notice that if I sit with the doors open and the engine idling the lights are flickering lightly. I'm thinking something going on with the alternator which had to be removed for the pcv system renewal.
I dont know where to begin because so much of the car had to be taken apart to do this job. Thanks in advance for the help!

Okay I did the service light read trick (hold the read button and double press the rear fog light button) and I have a DTC for about half the modules. I notice though that when i give the car a little gas while idling that the interior lights all get a LOT brighter. I'm beginning to think I screwed up my alternator when I pulled it out. I'll check voltages and such tomorrow morning. As it is I began this project at about 8am yesterday morning and its 1:30 am now so I don't think i have the mental capacity to troubleshoot this right now.

Good chances the alternator is not charging right. It affects several modules. I'd not drive the car until fixed, because it can quickly damage the battery.jeljm wrote:and I have a DTC for about half the modules
Might be the cables to the alternator, a power cable being cracked, a battery terminal not making good contact when the battery was disconnected. The coolant will burp several times when the engine cools down, have an eye on the reservoir

Okay update time! I started it up to check for voltages at about 8:30 this morning the battery voltage is sitting at 12.44 when measured from the fuse box in the engine bay. With the engine running at idle the voltage fluctuates between 14.25ish and 14.14ish. When I started it up the message was gone. I attempted to read and dtcs with the above mentioned method. Nothing comes up. I drove it about five miles before seeing the above reply. No problems. The issue appears to have gone though the very subtle light flickering is still there. I wish I had my xc70 with me (it's at the airport) to see if that's just what they do. I don't believe in problems fixing themselves so I'm still scratching my head as to what the hell happened. My guess is electrical connection drying out.

It could be a bad ground that broke during the PCV job. Check the alternator connection too. That's tough to see and put right , though
