turbo swap - car loses boosting power after initial acceleration

Post by nthnnxn »

02 V70 T5 170k... My original Turbo went bad, So I went the cheap n easy route with a used one off ebay from LKQ. Swap out went smooth, but after driving on the highway at higher speeds... The car loses boosting power after initial acceleration. Meaning that after 1-2 seconds of boosting after acceleration... It feels like a power loss and it takes too long for the tranny to shift for more speed.

Does the turbo I installed need to be adjusted? Did I not hook something up correctly? Do I have a different problem other than the turbo now?

Thanks in advance for any help!

There is a Turbo Control Valve (TCV) and actuator rod...these should hooked up correctly and the rod turned to accommodate your car. The actuator rod will hold your boost in longer... but it's a trade off- it really doesn't change the boost per se... Others may be able to chime in. Did you buy the same size turbo?

The turbo seemed to be identicle. Fit was perfect for all connections... I didnt draw a diagram of all the hose connections before I took out the original. I found a couple diagrams online (google) that helped. But I spoze I could have gotten 2 hoses mixed up...

Came back home from work yesterday and ended up losing a lot of oil... As in all of it minus 1 QT. Front main seal blew out... Replaced it... Seems to be the answer to my power loss, because now the car just accellerates constantly how its supposed to.
