6 disc changer in my 96R

So I actually like my factory 6-disc Changer in my 96R. Except for that it misreads a lot when driving on roads that are not super smooth. Has anyone of you ever successfully shock absorbed that thing? I know there are tons of nice new headunits out there but I like the factory look of my 801.

Has the CD player always skipped or is it something that is getting worse with time?

If it is the latter, have you ever cleaned the laser in the unit? These get dirty with age and can become more sensitive. I haven't ever cleaned one of the external changers, only SC-816/900/901 units.

It has always done that, but I just bought it last September. Interesting idea to clean the head. Will give it a try.
