My dad;s Volvo has been loosing some coolant on occasion. I tried to locate the leak but with no success as it was happening so rare that all leaks dried up and by the time I had a chance to look at it. We just topped it off and went our ways. Recently it started to happen more often, once a week, and this week it happened every other day. The leak happens after the engine gets hot and car driven. The leak goes until Coolant level in the Expansion Box reaches slighly below 'Min' level. It stops than. We have to add Coolant as computer alarms about Low Coolant Level. I decided on Sunday to take a look and to my luck it was leaking as I removed the underneath engine cover. After wiping all off I noticed that it is leaking above where Oil Dip tube connects to the Oil Pan or in that area. I tried to look from the top but due Oil Separator container I can't see anything. I have examined the head gasket behind the intake manifold and found to be dry. I took a few pics for references. One from underneath and one from above between Intake Manifold gap. If someone knows and/or have any idea where this leak might be coming from please let me know.
Thank you

The PVC system on P2 cars is warmed by coolant so there are hoses running under the intake manifold that can leak in thus vicinity. You will have to take off the intake manifold to get a good look at this system and find the leak

Nope, you leave them in. You unbolt the manifold and lift it off with all those delicate little injectors in place.
The tricky part is releasing the fuel line - you need either a 'fuel line release tool', and 'AC line release tool' or a BIC (tm) pen.

Abscate, thank you for the feedback. I assume you meant releasing the pressure before disconnecting Fuel and AC lines. I didn't realize that AC lines will need to be disconnected too. Will I loose RC-xxx AC liquid and be required to refill it? Can you please confirm this for me? Thanks.

Abscate, I tool a liberty of searching through and found a good description of having Manifold removed for PVC cleaning. This isn't my dad's car and not necessary an XC70 but very similar. The attached picture represents the entire area with manifold removed. I looked through and don't really see where any cooling hoses might be going here that will leak. Can you please point me to it? I will greatly appreciate it. Thank youabscate wrote:The PVC system on P2 cars is warmed by coolant so there are hoses running under the intake manifold that can leak in thus vicinity. First, you don't need to touch the AC lines, but you need to release the fuel line. The AC tool can used for that, sorry for the confusion.
At the front end of the PVC tube there is a coolant connection and a short rubber U hose carrying coolant back to a banjo connection in the rear of the engine.
I'll try to download that pic and markup when I'm off-pad.

Thank you abscate for helping me to identify a potential area of the coolant leak. I got what you meant by saying AC tool. Waiting for the updated picture from you. Thank you once again.abscate wrote:First, you don't need to touch the AC lines, but you need to release the fuel line. The AC tool can used for that, sorry for the confusion.

I will be in the process of removing Intake Manifold this weekend to identify and fix the Coolant Leak on my XC70. While in there I will check the PVC and clean if necessary. Can someone from their experience tell me what parts I absolutely need to have before taking this apart for the fear of either breaking it or must to replace upon assembly? Thank you guys.

On travel and still not in front of computer so have to use my words.
Underneath the manifold on the front side of the engine ( towards passenger) is where the coolant hides attach to the thermostat area
