2000 S70 key only unlocks driver's door

The key locks and unlocks only the driver's door, no connection to central locking or alarm. Driver's and passenger door lock switches work with central locking, and key fobs work fine. This is a fairly recent development, had hardly noticed it except a few times I unlocked the car with the key and the alarm went off. All the actuators are working, so hopefully this is a repairable mechanical or electrical connection.

The master window/door switch is a replacement from Switch Doctor that has been working fine for a year.
My only experience with this particular issue is the replacement of the front passenger actuator a few years back.
Any advice before I open up the door would be greatly appreciated.

Sorry - getting into the door is more than likely necessary...
Probably the switch that's actuated by the key cylinder in the door,
or possibly a loose contact on the door jamb connector. Those are
the places that I would start a search.

Thanks for the suggestions. I'll be opening up the door next, but I'm just trying to understand how things work. Most of the information on MVS and elsewwhere is for replacing or repairing failed actuators, but all of mine seem to be working.

If someone could explain what happens when the key is turned in the lock, it would be a big help.

There must be a microswitch in the lock assemly that is most probably actuated by a tiny cam or rod as soon as you lock or unlock the door (key is turned). THis microswitch gives a Signal (probably 12V) to the power lock unit which then actuates all other cylinders. I have no clue though how it is assembled and where to look exactly. Hope that was of any help.

Silly suggestion, but do Volvo still supply a 'valet' key with the cars? That has limited functionality, but can't remember if it only worked with the drivers door and ignition.

I don't recall a valet key with any of the Volvos we've owned. Both my keys and fobs have worked perfectly until recently.
I'm going to remove the lock and look at the microswitches.
