Noob learning to care for a '99 Volvo

Hello fellow mechanics, dabblers and wrench-throwers.
Name's Jay, from Boston. Got a silver 1999 V70R for my daughter who just got her license...
they're both the same model year

I've worked on '70s Dodge & Plymouth (hence username), Mazda, Subaru, Toyota, and Datsun/Nissan. Now need to grow my skills for The Land Barge aka The Millennium Falcon - it earned its name because things will stop working and come back on with a good thump, things tend to fall off, looks kind of rough, but it can haul ass when it needs to.



I'm here and also on swedespeed, to gather as much info as possible on holding this thing together.

Welcome aboard. You will find the forums to be particularly helpful with just about any problem you will encounter so feel free to post with any question you might have. The only dumb question is the one that doesn't get asked.

....And I thought I was nuts for buying my daughter a Porsche as her first car. It looked fast but it had a non turbo 4 banger in it so it was kind of a dog and she couldn't get into much trouble with it. As you have found out, the R is a serious car when you want it to be.

Thanks Lee! Just lurking the forums has already guided me through a few immediate, necessary repairs.
This boat has had so many owners all over the US (carfax is a scary thing sometimes), it's hard to trace who modified what, where, and when. Last owner put a turbo on it. (Because it needed to go even faster... )

Luckily the kid's a good driver, I'm not worried about her, it's everyone else's driving that scares me.
(long story short, she witnessed me get hit by a drunk driver, she's seen too much.)

Currently tracing the reason for the blower not working; no heat or AC. Got about seven forum threads open right now, lol
